Spelling Bee sign ups close

Sign up here: https://bit.ly/DanMillsSpellingBee

Metro Nashville Public Schools is participating in the process for all students to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May 2026 and we are excited for our Dan Mills students to have an opportunity to participate.

This process begins at the school level with a grade level spelling bee followed by a schoolwide spelling bee. We are opening the grade level spelling bee to any 1st grade through 5th grade student who wishes to participate.

Here are the details for parents:

  • Students must be signed up by their parent to participate.

  • Only students who are signed up will participate in the grade level spelling bee.

  • Sign ups close on Tuesday, January 20 @ 3:00 pm.

  • After the registration ends on January 20, the parent will be emailed a list of words to study. Each grade level has a different list of words.

  • On January 27, during the grade level related arts time, students will be called to the library rather than attend their related arts for the day.

  • The grade level spelling bee will be held in a written format, similar to a “spelling test”.

  • The top 3 winners from each grade level will be notified by end of day on January 28.

The top 3 students from each grade level spelling bee will be invited to participate in the schoolwide spelling bee on February 4 at 5:00pm in the Dan Mills library. Parents must be able to attend with their students for the duration of the spelling bee. The schoolwide spelling bee will be held in a “traditional” spelling bee format in adherence to the guidelines provided by the Scripps Foundation.

The winner of the Dan Mills schoolwide spelling bee will then move on to participate in the Davidson County spelling bee hosted by the Tennessee Titans. This round will be virtual and more details will be provided to the Dan Mills representative.

If you are interested in your child participating in the grade level spelling bee, please use this link to sign up. Sign-ups close TUESDAY JANUARY 20 at 3:00 pm!
